Waxing is pretty simple.
Also, don’t leave it in a hot car on your seats or it might stain the seats. I use a large aluminum roasting pan I bought at Wal-Mart wit about 6 – 8 pounds of paraffin, also bought at Wal-Mart. They look so nice and neat.

Keep the whip covered in the wax, maintaining at least degrees, but not allowing it to get overuntil all the bubbles stop.
Bulllwhip doesn’t actually take that much wax but since it can be used over and over it’s easier to use this much because it covers the whip completely. I use Popsicle sticks to hold it under, as parts of the whip might float or stick up out of the wax as I cram the entire whip in.

I really like the way waxing makes the whip feel. Also meant to say that the whip will be very stiff when it cools, but a few cracks and it loosens right up. Too bad the colors are Steelers colors, haha!
Mine still look cheap. I only plan on making 1 whip for myself, but I guess that’s where it starts.
The knots at the transition each used about 2 ft and the heel knot used about 5 ft. It’s mainly decorative-another place to add distinction to the piece. I guess I could always make some candles or something with the leftover wax.

I’ve really been contimplating the task of making a whip for myself, but of all the nuances that go into it, sealing it in wax worries me the most.

I first saw it done on whips by Tyler Blake and figured out how to do it patacord reading Ron Edwards’ and Bruce Grant’s books on whip making and leather lacing. The handle is also 8 inches and I used 16 strands about 16″ long to bullwwhip the fancy plait.
