Thiking believed that most people have their most productive ideas in their early twenties. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Two and Two Together. Few books continue to speak to the generations after them; Visual Thinking is one of those rare exceptions. Getting through this felt like an accomplishment.
Arnheim also argues that perception is strongly identified with thinking, and that artistic expression is another way of reasoning. A lot of reading.
Arnheim shows how this visual langauge has developed. In The Power of the CenterArnheim addresses the interaction of art and architecture on concentric and grid spatial patterns. All of that makes up our view of the world. The density of the writing was not rewarded with better insight into visual thinking – at least for me. A Psychology of the Creative Aenheim The two chapters on “The intelligence of perception” I and II, are a review of the philosophical discussions that frame this otherwise formalistic and psychological treatment. Absolute MUST for any graphic designer’s library—some of the info predates information design and web interface design concepts, but this is the information visuak forms the core of those disciplines.

The essay was about the nature of Charlie Chaplin’s and Hitler’s moustaches and what the moustache did to the nose in terms of human character.
